Bujagali Hydropower

The Bujagali power station is a hydroelectric power station on the Victoria Nile which produces energy at the Bujagali waterfall in Uganda. Construction was completed in 2012. The capacity of the power station is 250 megawatts (340,000 hp). The station is one of the most powerful hydroelectric power stations in Uganda. Hydropower is a form of renewable energy since no CO2 emissions are emitted as a result of direct operation (compared to thermal power stations which use fossil fuels).

Brazil Nut Rainforest Community Project

The work of the Brazil Nut Rainforest Community climate protection project aims to protect the valuable primary rain forest, which is home to numerous rare, endangered plants and animals and provides them with a habitat. Thanks to its activities the project grants about 400 families long-term income opportunities with the traditional harvesting of Brazil nuts. The local population is very involved in the project and also receives training e.g. in sustainable harvesting techniques.

Legal classification

What EmpCo permits

Investments in environmental initiatives may be communicated factually. A project contribution does not have to be certificate-based.

The important limit

No neutral, reduced or positive climate effect of a product may be derived from the project support.

Application

The new rules apply from 27 September 2026.

Information instead of promised effects

Communicate only the documented facts: project, project type, period and available records.

Keep them apart

A CO₂ balance, a company's own reductions and voluntary project contributions should be presented separately.

Better avoided

Terms such as “climate neutral”, “CO₂-neutral” or “balanced” in connection with project support.
